APRIL 6, 2014. USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is celebrating National Volunteer Week April 6-13 by thanking its Earth Team volunteers for their valuable servVolunteer Week - April 6-13, 2014ice to conservation.

Earth Team is the agency’s volunteer workforce, and last year volunteers in Idaho donated 637 hours of service valued at approximately $13,880.

“Volunteers work closely with our staff and play an important role in our state’s conservation work,” said Jeff Burwell, Idaho NRCS State Conservationist. “In Idaho, Earth Team volunteers have helped us with many tasks, ranging from office filing to measuring the snowpack.”

The Earth Team program was created in 1985. It offers many opportunities to individuals 14 and older interested in volunteering to improve the nation’s natural resources. Earth Team volunteers help NRCS conservationists provide private landowners a range of services from technical assistance to teaching and generating awareness about conservation through community projects.

“Earth Team volunteers help NRCS to stretch available resources and carry out additional conservation practices. Their efforts improve land and wildlife habitat and contribute to cleaner water and air for everyone,” Burwell said. “We want to thank past and present Earth Team volunteers who have worked with us over the years; we appreciate their help.”
