Using American Investment and Recovery Act Funding under the authority contained in Section 14 of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act, Georgia NRCS, has recently completed rehabilitation of four aging watershed dams located in Barrow, Madison and Jackson Counties. This work was completed in partnership with the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, the Broad River Soil and Water Conservation District, the Oconee River Soil and Water Conservation District, Barrow County, Jackson County and Madison County.

Rehabilitation of these dams was needed to address critical public health and safety issues in these communities as the dams are nearing the end of their 50-year design life and did not meet current dam safety criteria.

The final inspection  of the completed work was completed on Marbury Creek 22 on March 3, Little Sandy Trail Creek 1, was on May 23, Sandy Creek 15 on August 3,  and South River 4 on August 22, 2011. Final project closeout was completed in April 2012, after vegetation was reestablished at each site. Operation and maintain was returned to the sponsors at that time.

The purpose of the final inspection is to insure that the dams are completed within specifications and all work has been completed per the contract.  The final inspection is the last step of the construction process.  Once vegetation is established at the sites, the local sponsors will once again assume responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the structures.

The pictures below shows the dams during the final inspection. Click on each picture for a larger picture.
