Soil Survey Programs overview

Soil surveys provide an on-the-ground, scientific inventory of soil resources including maps showing the location and extent of soils, data about the physical and chemical properties of those soils, and information derived from that data about potential problems of use. They provide the basic information needed to manage soil sustainability and protect water quality, wetlands and wildlife habitat.

NRCS provides soil surveys for privately owned lands through its Web Soil Survey Center, a web-based interactive search. It provides scientific expertise to develop and maintain a uniform system for mapping and assessing soil resources so that soil information from different locations can be shared.

Florida Soils Information:

Supplemental information is available in the form of published soil surveys. USDA has published soil surveys since 1899. Many of these publications are archived as PDF files.

‚ÄčPrinted copies of soil surveys are available at Federal depository libraries and in some cases at USDA offices.
