Workshop Highlights Pollinator Habitat on Working Farms

Little Rock, AR, July 31, 2014 — The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Booneville Plant Materials Center,  Agricultural Research Service and The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation are co-sponsoring a Planning Pollinator Habitat on Working Farms Workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 9, 2014.

The workshop, held at the Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center, 6883 S. State Highway 23 south of Booneville, will include presentations and field tours to teach the basics of:

  • Choosing a site on your farm to establish pollinator habitat,
  • Using specific pollinator species to improve vegetable and fruit production,
  • The importance of establishing pollinator habitat for honey production,
  • Integrating pollinator habitat areas into livestock grazing programs for cattle, sheep and goats; and
  • Opportunities for financial assistance to establish pollinator habitat from NRCS.
