Future Solutions Now to Restore the Health of the L’Anguille River MRBI/CCPI Project
Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program Applications through MRBI due June 8, 2012 - News Release
The L’Anguille River Project is sponsored by the L’Anguille River Coalition. Collaborating conservation partners include the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Arkansas State University, Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Poinsett County Conservation District, Cross County Conservation District, East Arkansas Resource Conservation and Development Council, and the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts.
The project area covers 8 sub-watersheds in the L’Anguille River basin in Poinsett and Cross Counties. The L’Anguille River has been designated as an impaired watershed by EPA due to excessive siltation and turbidity from agricultural sources.
The conservation partners will use practices ranging from conservation cover and nutrient management to filter strips and riparian forest buffers to mitigate the amount of nutrients currently reaching the water course through soil erosion.
They plan to benefit at least 110 farmers in the watershed with funding through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP), and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).
