Emergency Watershed Protection Program - Floodplain Easement - St. Francis River Floodplain

This easement includes 7.7 acres of row crop land within the levee of the St. Francis River in Clay County. During times of high water, this entire property is inundated. Damage on this area includes scouring, sedimentation and crop damage.
This application is within 1 mile of an existing wetlands reserve program easement.
Restoration of this site will include the establishment of bottomland hardwood trees. This will cost an estimated $3,000 or $195 per acre.
This restoration, utilizing funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will benefit the health of the endangered mussels found in the White River and result in the retirement of 7.7 acres of annually flooded crop land and eliminate disaster and commodity payments.
Option Agreement to Purchase signed Aug. 7, 2009.
Easement funds were obligated Aug. 7, 2009.
