Pike County 2016 EQIP Program
Executive Summary
The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Pike County, Alabama, will hold a sign-up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2016 Fiscal Year. This sign-up will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user, who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hay land, or forestland, may apply for assistance through this program.
Special arrangements for taking applications on the farm can be made by making an appointment with the District Conservationist. Applications may be made at the following offices:

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Pike County as follows:
- Cropland-Erosion/Soil Quality
- Grazing Land
- Woodland-Forestry and Wildlife Health
- Water Quality/Animal Waste
- Irrigation Water Management (efficiency only)
All applications will be ranked using the Alabama NRCS state-wide EQIP ranking tool. Approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Practices providing the greatest economical and environmental benefits will be emphasized. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. Applications will be "batched" and ranked. The workgroups goal is to have 70 to 80 percent of “County Funds” address Cropland-Erosion/Soil Quality and 20 to 30 percent of “County Funds” address Grazing Lands. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be October 16, 2015, and additional applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding if additional funds become available.
Limited Resource Farmers, New and Beginning Farmers, and Socially Disadvantaged Farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.
Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from the Alabama NRCS state list. Eligible practices, restrictions and payment rates are the same as those adopted by Alabama NRCS state-wide.
