Alabama CSP Cropping Criteria Options

1. A minimum of two crops if one of the crops is a perennial lasting at least 2 years:

    Examples: (rsl = residue left after harvest)

  • Corn grain, 1 yr.; fescue 2 yrs. or more
  • Cotton, 1 yr.; fescue 2 yrs. or more
  • Soybean, 1 yr., bahiagrass 2 yrs. or more
  • Peanut, 1 yr., bahiagrass 2 yrs. or more
  • Pumpkins, 1 yr., bahiagrass 2 yrs. or more
  • Fescue/white clover hay, 2 yrs., corn silage 1 yr.
  • Bahiagrass 2 yrs., peanuts rdl, cotton

OR

2.  A minimum of two crops, if no perennial, with a cover crop (not harvested) following one of the crop years (no silage or crop residue removed from the system), this may include a summer fallow if seeded to a cover crop:

    Examples:

  • Corn (grain) 1 yr. rdl, cotton 1 yr., rye cover no harvest
  • Cotton 1 yr., rye cover no harvest, peanuts, rdl
  • Corn (grain) 1 yr. rdl, rye no harvest, soybean
  • Wheat harvested, double crop soybean, rye no harvest, cotton
  • Cotton rdl, peanut rdl, rye cover no harvest
  • Corn (grain) 1 yr., rye cover no harvest, peanuts 1 yr. rdl, rye cover no harvest, cotton 1 yr.
  • Potatoes 1 yr., cereal grain cover no harvest, corn (grain) 1 yr. rdl, tomatoes 1 yr.
  • Cotton 2 yr., rye cover no harvest follows cotton, peanut, rye cover no harvest

OR

3. A minimum of three crops, if no perennial, where at least 1/2 the rotation consists of high residue crops:

    Examples:

  • Cotton 1 yr, corn (grain) 2 yrs., rdl, wheat grain
  • Corn (grain) rdl 1 yr. ., wheat, no harvest, rdl, soybean, rye no harvest rdl, cotton
  • Corn (grain) 1 yr. rdl, wheat (grain), double crop soybean 1 yr.
  • Peanuts 1 yr., corn (grain) 1 yr. rdl, cotton 1 yr., corn grain 1 yr., rdl
  • Corn (silage) 1 yr, wheat (grain) 1 yr., potatoes 1 yr., wheat (grain) 1 yr.
  • Corn (grain) 1 yr., rdl, wheat (grain), double crop soybean 1 yr., cotton rdl
