Purpose: To notify Alabama Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) employees of attendance and approval requirements.
Expiration Date: September 30, 2014
Action Required By: Noon, May 28, 2014
The Alabama Chapter of Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) will hold its annual meeting June 11-13, 2014, at the Holiday Inn Research Park in Huntsville, Alabama. The annual state meeting provides NRCS employees the opportunity to learn about new and emerging technology and research as it relates to natural resource management, as well as interact with other conservation specialists from around the state and beyond.
To be “authorized” to attend the annual meeting on official government time and travel with registration fees paid by NRCS, the employee must be:
Presenting a paper, poster, or making a presentation, or
Conducting a training session, or
Attending a training session for the purpose of maintaining credits for professional development units or continuing education credits. Employees must have attendance of subject training presentations in their FY14 IDP, or
Approved by the State Conservationist as having a valid duty-related purpose to be in attendance.
All other NRCS-Alabama employees (both SWCS non-members and members), with supervisor’s approval for leave, may attend on their own time and at their own expense (employee pays registration, GOV use not authorized).
No “authorized” employee should register to attend without first getting approval from their supervisor and/or their ASTC. ASTCs will ensure that Government-funded Travel (authorization in GovTrip) is kept to a minimum. Priority for Government-funded registration will be given to employees that can attend their training session within a 10-hour duty day. Once approved, “authorized” employees should send their names to Stacey Riggins at the State Office by NOON on May 28, 2014.
All “authorized” employees should visit the Alabama Chapter SWCS Homepage for a pre-registration form and send it to the Alabama Chapter contact and mark the form “Registration to be paid by NRCS.” Any “non-registration” fees will be paid by the employee. Employees will not be reimbursed any extra amount for late registration.
Additional information about the SWCS annual meeting is available on the Alabama Chapter SWCS Homepage. If you have questions about attending while on government travel, please contact your ASTC or John Hughes at 334-887-4568.
