AL Bulletin 210-13-1

Date: August 21, 2013

Subject: ENG – Biosecurity Protocol When Entering Poultry Houses

Purpose: To transmit the latest biosecurity guidelines from the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI, also known as the State Veterinarians’ office).

Action Required: Team should supply an estimate of supplies to John Hughes ASAP.

Expiration Date: September 30, 2014

The attached guidelines are essentially the same as ADAI’s guidelines issued in 2005, but there were certain parts of the guidelines having to do with the wearing of protective suits and hairnets that have not been strictly required. However, with the bird disease problems of the last few years, ADAI is now requiring that the guidelines be strictly followed, especially since NRCS personnel in certain counties will now be required to enter the poultry production houses to check energy practice components.

Notice, especially item C.3., in the guidelines requiring disposable coveralls and hairnets as well as disposable footwear. These items will be supplied to the field offices as soon as possible. In order to supply the appropriate size and amount of protective gear to each office, each team should supply an estimate of supplies to John Hughes as soon as possible. The number of visits per contract should be kept to a minimum, e.g., by using the minimum number of employees per visit and only three visits per job, if possible.

Each of us must take these guidelines seriously.
