Disability Awareness Month 2012
October is National Disability Awareness Month, a time when we recognize the success stories and contributions that Americans with disabilities have made to the culture of our country. Encourage managers to provide career enhancement and promotions for people with disabilities.
The Disability Emphasis Program goals are to:
Promote understanding and appreciation of individuals with disabilities.
Promote understanding of the requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Provide reasonable accommodations and accessibilities.
“A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Workforce: What can you do?” is the theme for this year’s celebration. The rich diversity of persons with disabilities strengthens us. Please join us in supporting and participating in the many activities that will take place this month.
Ms. Christina Clark-Cuadrado, a soil conservationist in Gettysburg, PA, has been judged the winner of the 2012 Disability Awareness Month Poster Contest. Her poster will serve as the agency’s official poster for the Disability Awareness Month activities. The poster will be distributed electronically through this national bulletin and the Disability Awareness Program managers (DEPMs).
