I have been selling farms and ranches here in California for over 30 years. I have also done a WRP project on one of my personal ranches in the past. I cannot understand the new requirement that you have to have owned the property for over 7 years to participate in the program. In California a major part of the people participating in the program are new owners that have the funds to spend to create the renovations necessary for the WRP program. The people that have had the property for years don't want to be in the program because they want every acre farmed for cash flow. I have applied to the NRCS for another WRP project on another ranch I have owned for two years but due to the last minute change it appears that it won't happen for a long time (5 years more). I am getting too old to want to do this project if I have to wait that long. I am sure there are lots of new owners that feel the same way. Hope this can be changed back to the one year requirement.
