NRCS Vermont Allocates $4 Million to Assist Farmers Recover from Floods
Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation, Robert Bonnie, toured Vermont in the wake of flooding in July 2023.
NRCS and the Forest Service seek proposals for Joint Chiefs’ projects to mitigate wildfire risk, protect water quality, improve wildlife habitat, restore forest ecosystems and contribute to USDA’s efforts to combat climate change. Proposals must be submitted by Sept. 4 for fiscal year 2024 funding.
USDA is investing $7.4 million in 25 selected grants that support urban agriculture and innovative production.
Today’s announcement and the broader federal strategy will support the effective implementation of these climate and conservation investments and help further President Biden’s bold goal of achieving a 50-52 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.
We’re inviting urban producers, innovative producers, and other stakeholders to virtually attend a public meeting of the Federal Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production on August 1 from 3-6 pm ET.
These commitments, which align with President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, will ramp up the conservation assistance for farmers, ranchers, private forest owners and tribes.
