Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently visited Terre Haute, Indiana, to announce that American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds are available to support 289 floodplain easements and 28 watershed operations sites nationwide.  Secretary Vilsack made the announcement in the Honey Creek Watershed project area that is receiving funds as a watershed operation site.  During his visit, the Secretary recognized farmers and residents affected by the funding announcements who were in attendance.

About 100 people were there for the announcement, including media and NRCS employees.  Vigo County District Conservationist Eddy Adams and Indiana southwest area civil engineer Denise Held who has been closely associated with the Honey Creek project, helped host the Secretary's visit.  The agency will help direct nearly $42.3 million to watershed operations projects and over $136 million to floodplain easements.

The Secretary also spoke at the National FFA Center in Indianapolis and held a town hall-type forum to discuss rural issues at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville.
