NRCS and its partners celebrated National Pollinator Week at the NRCS National Plant Materials Center (NPMC) in Beltsville, Maryland.  Speakers described the benefits of pollinators, participated in tours of the NPMC, and viewed exhibits that demonstrated how NRCS and its partners support pollinators in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Gary Mast gave the keynote presentation for the event.  NRCS Pollinator Coordinator Doug Holy and Chief of the Plant Protection and Weed Management Section for the Maryland Department of Agriculture Carol Holko also spoke at the event.

NPMC activities highlighted included landscaping with native plants, NRCS plant selection – grass-leaved golden aster, Maryland wildflower studies, Crider Garden of Conservation Plants, rain gardens - planting for diversity and water quality, and cover crops – (buckwheat).
