new distributional map on PLANTS Web site (NRCS image -- click to enlarge) |
The National Plant Data Center (NPDC) has announced that a new PLANTS Plant
Profiles map is now available on the PLANTS Web site. The map depicts North
America — north of the Mexican border. The U.S. portion includes Hawaii, Puerto
Rico/Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia. Data for Canada, Greenland
(Denmark), and the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon (France) were provided
to us by the Montreal Botanical Garden so that PLANTS could better reflect a
plant’s distribution across North America.
To access the new tool, go to the PLANTS home
page, click on the Plant of the Week, and scroll down to a map of the
plant’s location. Definitions of the geographic jurisdiction abbreviations can
be found by clicking on the Native Status link on the Plant Profile — just left
of the species image at the top of the profile
