The NRCS Agricultural Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is currently working with retired NRCS public affairs specialist Lynn Betts, through a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Project with Iowa State University to develop one-page summary notes that highlight the main points of the Technical Notes produced by the Center.  The great challenge for Lynn is to translate the Tech Notes down to one effective page.

The idea for this project came from NRCS Kentucky State Biologist Mason Howell who, after reviewing a Tech Note, observed, “This work is fine for biologists and technical specialists, but our district conservationists don’t have time to read much. They need a product that they can use to discuss conservation practices with landowners, that enhance fish and wildlife habitat.”

Acting on the field request, AWCC Director Pete Heard moved forward to develop the sheets.  “These one-pagers will not only help district conservationists in the planning process,” Heard said, “but a book of the one-pagers will provide a product that summarizes the technical work that is available from the AWCC.

The one-pagers will be available on the AWCC Webpage soon.
