NRCS, along with other USDA agencies, will participate in a Bioenergy Awareness Day to be held on June 21, in the Department’s South Building Cafeteria.  NRCS will feature an energy nomadic exhibit and provide information on energy conservation to visitors.  Fact sheets on the NRCS Energy Estimator for irrigation, tillage, and nitrogen will be available as well as material on irrigation water management, integrated pest management, and nutrient management. Several USDA agencies will showcase their renewable energy efforts.

The June 21, Bioenergy awareness day was chosen to coincide with the Summer Solstice.  On or near that day, the Sun is at its highest path through the sky and the day is the longest.  Because the day is so long the Sun does not rise exactly in the east, but rises to the north of east and sets to the north of west allowing it to be in the sky for a longer period to time.
