Regional Assistant Chief for the NRCS Central Region Christina Muedeking announced at the NRCS Earth Day celebration at Whitewater State Park in Altura, Minnesota, that an additional $1.4 million dollars of Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) funding will be allocated to the Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi River Basin.

The Driftless Area encompasses a four-State region of Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.  The funding announced by Muedeking will be in addition to the original $9.2 million EQIP allocation for the Driftless Area Region. The Driftless Area is a unique region that encompasses nearly 24,000 square miles of the Upper Mississippi River.

The land, soils, and ecosystems of the Driftless Area are diverse and home to hundreds of State and federally threatened and endangered animal and plant species.
