“COOL!” and “WOW!” were the most common comments from the girl scouts with their 3-D glasses as they reached out to "touch" a three-dimensional landscape anaglyph (NRCS photos -- click to enlarge)

Against a backdrop of vintage aircraft, NRCS headquarters staff from Soil Survey and Legislative and Public Affairs, participated in a Girl Scout Day at the National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center, in northern Virginia. Several thousand Girl Scouts, their families, and others attended the March 17 day-long event. The NRCS exhibit included stereoscopes, 3D anaglyphs, and aerial photographs that provided participants with a learning experience on how the agency uses technology to analyze landscapes. NRCS publications on conserving natural resources were distributed and careers in conservation were explained.

The Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC) sponsored the event. The GSCNC serves more than 73,000 girl and adult members who live in Washington, DC; the Maryland counties of Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince Georges, and St. Mary's; the Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William; and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church.
