NRCS headquarters staff recently exhibited at
the 54th Annual National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference in
Anaheim, California. The NRCS booth featured a live demonstration of the Web
Soil Survey, the interactive online Scoop on Soils program produced by
NRCS in Illinois, and over 13 different NRCS publications — including posters,
bookmarks, educational packets, children’s tattoos, books, and CDs.

Over 41,000 publications were distributed to
over 11,000 teachers. Teachers attending NSTA learned that the NRCS LANDCARE
publications Web site is a valuable resource for obtaining conservation-related
classroom materials at no cost. There was great excitement about using the
interactive items in the classroom — Online Soil Survey for the high school and
college levels, and “Scoop on Soils” for the primary level.
