The NRCS Southeast Texas Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council and the Livingston NRCS Field Office are partnering on a new project with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas.  Technical assistance provided by NRCS has helped initiate a program with the tribe’s 4-H youth program to plant, grow, and eventually sell Christmas Trees.

NRCS will participate in Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) activities to be held on the National Mall, May 4-7, 2006. The event, celebrated the first Monday through Sunday in May since 1985, is a yearly opportunity to recognize the good work of public servants and to honor the men and women who serve America as Federal, state and local government employees.

Transferring Technology a Center Mainstay
Established over a year ago, the NRCS West National Technology Support Center (WNTSC) in Portland, Oregon, has been busy assisting States in transferring technology to the field. Core discipline specialists have been working closely with conservationists in the States to improve the tools and practices available for field conservationists.

Rangeland Conservationist of the Year – Homer SanchezRangeland Conservationist of the Year – Homer Sanchez
Homer Sanchez was recently recognized for his selection as the NRCS Range Conservationist of the Year at the Society for Range Management annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada.  Presenting the award for the agency was Dennis Thompson, National Range and Grazing Lands Ecologist.
