The NRCS Southeast Texas Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council and the Livingston NRCS Field Office are partnering on a new project with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas.  Technical assistance provided by NRCS has helped initiate a program with the Tribe’s 4-H youth program to plant, grow, and eventually sell Christmas Trees.  NRCS district conservationist in Livingston, Ron Harris has been working with the Tribe's 4-H youth program. Perry Williams, Tribal representative and executive director of the Southeast RC&D, brings his leadership skills to this project.

The tree planting project gives the youth a hands-on lesson in learning about planting, cultivating, and maintaining the trees. The Tribe considers their youth a vital resource and go to great lengths to honor their legacy. They realize the decisions they make now will affect future generations.
