Endangered and Threatened Plant Species Identified at WRP Site

A two-year study of plant life at the New Jersey Conservation Foundation’s 9,400-acre Franklin Parker Preserve has identified 30 rare, endangered, and threatened species, or about 6.5 percent of the observed species. NRCS provided $5.4 million in financial assistance last year for the largest Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) project in the Northeast.

The agency continues to provide technical assistance for the restoration of 1,100 acres of cranberry bogs and blueberry fields that have been altered by historic agricultural practices. The national goal of Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) achieving the greatest wetland functions and values, along with optimum wildlife habitat on every acre enrolled in the program, is clearly being fulfilled at the Franklin Parker Preserve in New Jersey.
