Endangered and Threatened Plant Species Identified at WRP Site

the New Jersey Conservation Foundation’s 9,400-acre Franklin Parker
Preserve
|
A two-year study of plant life at the
New Jersey Conservation Foundation’s 9,400-acre Franklin Parker Preserve has
identified
30 rare, endangered, and threatened species, or about 6.5 percent of the
observed species. NRCS provided $5.4 million in financial assistance last year
for the largest Wetlands
Reserve Program (WRP) project in the Northeast.
The agency continues to provide technical
assistance for the restoration of 1,100 acres of cranberry bogs and blueberry
fields that have been altered by historic agricultural practices. The national
goal of Wetlands Reserve
Program (WRP) achieving the greatest wetland functions and values, along
with optimum wildlife habitat on every acre enrolled in the program, is clearly
being fulfilled at the Franklin Parker Preserve in New Jersey.
