NRCS staff from the Soil Survey and Legislative and Public Affairs divisions
recently participated in a Girl Scout “Linking Girls to the Land” program at the
National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center, in northern Virginia.
More than 1,000 Girl Scouts and their families attended the day-long event.
The NRCS exhibit included stereoscopes and anaglyphs that provided participants
with hands-on learning experience on how the agency uses technology to analyze
landscapes. The gamut of conservation careers was also explained.
“Linking Girls to the Land” is an interagency partnership between Girl Scouts of
the USA’s Elliott
Wildlife Values Project and Federal natural resource conservation agencies,
initiatives, and partner organizations. This partnership encourages 3.8 million
Girl Scouts across the country to become involved in conservation and natural
resource issues through partnerships with Federal agencies on national and local
levels. This semi-annual event is a valuable opportunity for NRCS to provide a
positive influence to these future leaders.
Girl Scout pledge to do their best “to use
resources wisely.” The Elliott Wildlife Values Project fund supports wildlife
conservation and education efforts for Girl Scouts.
