Billowing clouds of dust wafted from the parched Great Plains over
Washington, DC. Legislators saw the problems associated with agriculture and air
management, and our history of dealing with air resource concerns began.
Today, NRCS is still dealing with air concerns related to wind erosion and
soil loss, but we also deal with air concerns related to plant growth and yield,
human health, air nuisances like odors and noise, to global concerns such as
potential changes in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.
