NRCS and its partners are restoring Galveston Bay's Goat Island. The island will serve as wildlife habitat, be a barrier between channel and shoreline, and protect homes from ship wakes and natural wave action.

After two decades of research, testing and editing, the results from the Ross County Soil Survey were released to the public.  The survey encompasses 443,448 acres -- the second largest in the State.

Fifty students planted hundreds of black ash walnut, Norway spruce trees, and cranberry bushes to help a Kenyon landowner complete a conservation project started by her late son.
 


Wyoming College Inks Land Deal for Agriculture Program
Agriculture students at Sheridan College will test new crops and study irrigation methods under a new hands-on program involving a plot of land the school is leasing. NRCS and the University of Wyoming will manage the land.

EQIP Helps Iowan Meet Future Feedlot Regulations
Kevin Carstensen says his neighbors wondered what he was doing when he started hauling gravel onto one of his Sac County fields. The loads of gravel are part of Carstensen’s vegetative filter channel system he started building last summer. Half the cost for the filter channel came through EQIP.

Veneman Notes Second Anniversary Of Farm Bill Signing
On May 20, 2004, Secretary Veneman released a summary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s efforts in implementing the 2002 Farm Bill, which was signed by President Bush May 13, 2002. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of USDA employees across the country, we have implemented 95 percent of the bill and the few remaining provisions are nearing completion, Veneman said.

NRCS Approved Reorganization
NRCS is reorganizing to streamline the agency to better meet our growing demands for NRCS services. The changes will help build an organization better prepared to meet future conservation challenges and provide opportunities to enhance customer service.

geochemistry database map of u.s. The Soil Geochemistry Spatial Database Website operates by using ArcIMS (ESRI, Inc.) and functions very similar to ArcView. The site comes up with the “Site Info” layer both visible and active. Visible indicates that the layer is displayed (e.g., US States, US Counties, Countries), and Active indicates that the data from that layer is currently accessible.
