NRCS Mentoring Eligibility Information

Updated 05/12/2009

All NRCS employees may apply to participate in NRCS Mentoring.  When a mentor is matched with a protégé, the following criteria will be taken into account:

  • Line of Supervision: The mentor may not be in the protégé’s line of supervision.

  • Grade Level: The mentor should be at least two levels above the protégé.

  • Skills and Experience: The mentor’s skills and experience should be related to the protégé’s mentoring goals.

Once mentors are selected, they will participate in a two-day Mentor Training session conducted by the local Mentoring Coordinator.  In addition, both mentors and protégés will participate in a two-day Mentor-Protégé Orientation session.

Please review the Roles and Benefits page as you consider your involvement and participation in this program. It is advised that you talk to your supervisor about your interest in participating in NRCS Mentoring to ensure that you have his or her support. Participation in NRCS Mentoring does require supervisory approval.
