Meeting Problem Solving Process

Team Start-up Kit


A.  Conduct a situation analysis

    1.  What is the current state?  (brainstorm, discuss, clarify)

    2.  What is the desired future state?  (brainstorm, discuss, clarify)

B.  Clarify the goal

    1.  Review goal statement.

C.  Identify problems

    1.  Once the team has clarified the goal, it identifies the problems that, if solved, would contribute to achieving the goal.  (brainstorm)

D.  Select problem(s) the team wants to focus on

    1.  Combine/group, prioritize, multivote.

E.  Analyze problems

    1.  Define the problem in terms of scope and where and when it occurs.

    2.  Look for root causes by gathering and analyzing facts to understand the problem.

    3.  Collect/review baseline data.

    4.  Develop a list of the most influential factors.

F.  Develop solution

    1.  Generate a list of promising solutions.  (brainstorm, prioritize)

G.  Implement solution

    1.  Design action plan to implement prioritized solution(s) determined in item F.
