I was born in McKinney, TX in 1964, and raised in a farming community near Howe, TX. I graduated from Howe High School in May 1983 and enrolled at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX in August 1983. I received my B.S. in Plant and Soil Science in May 1987. I began my career with NRCS in September 1987 as an agronomist (plant materials trainee) at the James E. “Bud” Smith Plant Materials Center (PMC) in Knox City, TX. I transferred to the East Texas PMC in Nacogdoches, TX in February 1989 as assistant PMC Manager. While at the East Texas PMC, I entered graduate school at Stephen F. Austin State University in May 1990 and received my M.S. in agronomy in May 1993. I transferred to the Jamie L. Whitten PMC in Coffeeville, MS in June 1993 where I served as state Plant Materials Specialist for MS, AR and TN. In April 1997, I became Manager of the Jamie L. Whitten PMC. I am married to the former Janna Lynn Bearden of Johnson City, TX. We have two teenage daughters, Amanda and Ashton.

I have authored or coauthored over 60 technical publications on plant materials and plant science technology for establishing and managing plants for conservation of natural resources. My interest is native grasses, legumes and forbs for resource conservation programs.
