In this position he provides water management technical assistance and technology transfer services to State NRCS technical specialists. Walker recently moved from Temple, Texas where he spent 11 years providing NRCS technical leadership on engineering conservation activities dealing with irrigation, erosion control, air quality, and waste management. In that position he provided technical assistance to 26 field and zone engineers. He also wrote state engineering policy and engineering conservation practice standards. For 7 years Walker provided engineering assistance to 21 Field Offices as NRCS, Amarillo Area Engineer. In this position he planned, designed, and supervised construction of more complex erosion control, animal waste, and irrigation practices. Walker served 6 years as the Irrigation Engineer on an Interdisciplinary Water Management Team on the Texas High Plains. In that position he conducted irrigation system and pumping plant evaluations, and trained NRCS personnel to conduct evaluations and troubleshoot irrigation system problems. Walker began his career as a field office engineer. He served in this capacity in 4 different Texas locations. Walker a native of Shamrock, Texas, attended Texas A&M University where he earned a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering in 1976, and a M.S. in Agricultural Engineering in 1978. He is licensed to practice engineering in the State of Texas. Walker has performed numerous special assignments during his career. He served on irrigation and drainage related foreign assignments to Australia, and Turkmenistan. He was a primary reviewer of the NRCS, National Irrigation Guide. During his career, Walker has served on numerous NRCS national level committees and teams dealing with irrigation and drainage issues including 2 National Irrigation Training Design Teams, the National Engineering Software Work Group, and the South Central Region - Water Management Core Team.
