Edward L. Griffin was promoted to Resource Soil Scientist for the Central National Technology Support Center on October 31, 2004.  In this position, he promotes the use, understanding, and the application of soil survey information to meet public policy and program needs in conservation planning, environmental assessment, engineering and other natural resource management activities.

Griffin is a native of Alto, Texas and a graduate of Prairie View A&M University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Animal Science and his Masters Degree in Soil Science. He started with the USDA/NRCS in 1973 as a student trainee in Rusk, Texas. In 1974, Griffin came on with the agency full time as a Soil Conservationist in Lufkin, Texas. In 1976 he joined the Angleton Soil Survey staff in Brazoria County, Texas as a soil scientist. He assisted with the completion of Brazoria and Galveston Counties Soil Surveys.

In 1981, he was transferred to Fairfield, Texas and assisted with completion of Freestone county soil Survey. In 1987, Griffin was promoted to Soil Survey Project Leader in Groesbeck, Texas and coordinated the completion of Limestone County Soil Survey. In 1991 he coordinated the completion of Gonzales County Soil Survey.

In 1996 Griffin was promoted to Soil Data Quality Specialist on MLRA Region 9 staff in Temple, Texas. He has served in the collateral duties of Black Emphasis Program Manager for Texas and Contract Officer Technical Representative for Soil Survey Contracts in Texas. He also served as Acting State Soil Scientist for Texas.

Griffin has received many merit awards for performance and was presented the Professional Achievement Award in 1997 by the National Organization of Professional Black NRCS Employees. He is licensed by the state of Texas as a Soil Scientist by the board of Professional Geoscientist and is certified as a Professional Soil Scientist by ARPACS. He is a member of the Texas Association of Professional Soil Scientists and the National Organization of Professional Black NRCS Employees Organization.
