Virginia (Ginger) Murphy, Associate Chief

Ginger Murphy was named Associate Chief for NRCS in June 2009. Ginger began
her career with NRCS as a Soil Conservationist in Nassau County, New York. She
has served the agency as District Conservationist, Liaison to the Environmental
Protection Agency, Resource Conservationist in New York, and State
Conservationist in Maryland and Delaware.
At NRCS’ National Headquarters, Ginger has served as Management Analyst,
Acting Staff Leader for the Farmland Protection and Community Planning Staff,
Associate Deputy Chief for Science and Technology, and Regional Assistant Chief
of the West.
She spent 15 months working in the office of Senator Dianne Feinstein as
Legislative Assistant for Agriculture during the writing of the 2008 Farm Bill.
Ginger holds a Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture from The
Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the
University of Michigan. Her areas of expertise are landscape planning and
design, landscape ecology, and resource assessment. Her passions are art and
design.
Ginger is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Soil and
Water Conservation Society, and lives in Annapolis, Maryland.
